Urban Garden Design – Built By Athens At The Height Of Its Power And Prosperity

urban garden designThe Parthenon is probably the most celebrated example of Greek architecture.

Built by Athens at the height of its power and prosperity, it was constructed fully of marble and bore more sculpture than any building before or after. Furthermore, the architects of the Parthenon, Iktinos and Kallikrates, extended proportional relationships throughout the building and successfully integrated the opposite architectural order, Ionic, into an otherwise Doric structure. That said, this lecture by Barbara Barletta, University of Florida, discusses the distinctive traits that make the Parthenon so important and sets the building within the context of Greek architecture by tracing the background of its forms and ideas.

For example, it demonstrates that the innovations of the Parthenon did not arise in a vacuum. Anyways, loads of its characteristics had appeared earlier in other temples, particularly in and around Athens. Of course in showing how the architects expanded upon ‘preexisting’ traditions, the lecture aims to answer the question just how innovative this building is.

Like peppers and chillies, window boxes are great for establishing herbs and vegetables that thrive in small pots, and can make your property more appealing from the outside. It pays to make outdoor areas an integral part of your living space, as space is limited in many urban homes and gardens. Which is why designing and decorating your garden like a room in your property is a great way to ensure the outdoor space is utilised.

splitting your garden into specific zones also has a similar effect. While establishing distinct areas using a range of building materials, colours and plants can give the appearance of a larger garden with greater function, as long as it was not cluttered with I’d say in case you live in a terrace house. While a small table and chairs instantly adds some practical appeal, trellises along one wall can add life to this small space without taking up precious room. Artificial lawns like the one on the right instantly brighten the space and can transform it from drab to delightful in an instant. </
